Callista Howell (Mosier) is a rodeo cowgirl who started riding horses in infancy. She learned rodeo skills from her mother and began to compete in rodeos at age 6. Her earliest events were barrel racing, pole bending, and steer riding. As a teenager, Howell won every one of the three Rodeo queen titles she has entered.
Bio
Callista Howell is master horsewoman and rodeo queen. Horses and rodeos have always been a part of her family’s life. As Howell says, “It gets in your blood.” In 1997, Callista’s mother brought her baby daughter along for her first horseback ride. During Howell’s childhood, her mother also taught her rodeo skills as she helped with cattle on the family’s ranch. At age six, Howell participated in her first rodeos, entering peewee events at Rodeo Bible Camp. Howell competes in barrel racing, pole bending, steer riding, jumping, and cowboy mounted shooting events. She has also entered and won three Rodeo Queen titles at Wasco County, Ft. Dalles Rider’s Club, and the Arlington Saddle Club. As a queen, Howell enjoys going to community events, riding in parades, attending rodeos, and sometimes speaking to schoolchildren. She often signs autographs, talks to reporters, and wears her special queen outfit to promote what she loves most. Howell and her mother also break and train their own horses. Howell, who apprentices in horse training with Jonelle Aezino in The Dalles, plans to become a veterinarian’s assistant.
