Norma Lund (Lakeview) is a skilled hand-quilter. She pieces, appliqués, and quilts with traditional patterns and rescues old quilts. Lund comes from a long line of quilters, including her mother, both grandmothers, and her great-grandmothers.
Bio
Norma Lund has been quilting since she lived in Alaska in the 1970s and has been a member of quilt groups in other places she has lived. She moved to Lakeview 23 years ago and began the Sagebrush Quilt group in Lakeview with other quilters. Originally from Nebraska, Lund comes from a long line of quilters, including her sister, her mother, her grandmothers, and great-grandmothers. A skilled hand-quilter, she makes quilts for her family and her own use. She has also created treasured family heirlooms by finishing quilts that were partly made by other family members, including an embroidered state bird quilt, partly made by her grandmother, an applique/embroidered pieced quilt by her aunt, and plaid blocks pieced by her uncle. Lund also enjoys rescuing old, almost unusable, worn-out quilts that she purchases at farm sales and stores. By replacing worn fabrics, taking apart unusable batting, and re-piecing and re-quilting them, she is able to restore even their original hand-quilting pattern. One such rescued quilt is one she calls “the Lakeview quilt” because there are several of the same pattern, sometimes called an apple blossom design, owned by others in Lakeview and at the local history museum.
